Bring back the shops!
#1

As a kid growing up on Cleator Moor during the 70's and 80's I have great memories of the shops, and as I got a little older, the pubs too. You could buy almost anything on the Moor - it was all there. Sadly, larger towns and affordable cars killed off the local shops. Maybe one day, we'll be able to bring back the shops!

My memories were the 50's and 60's when the shops seemed to thrive even more.  Although from Cleator, the Moor was a hub of activity and social events that made the village a lot less attractive.  Moving down to to 'The Smoke', and eventally even further south means I've lost contact for a long time.  I have noticed, sadly, the withering of many facilities on my rare, and fleeting, visits in later years.

The associated link of unemployment to poverty has caused that withering effect. Hopefully the promised Town Fund deal will attract the maximum £25 million that is available, and kick start regeneration that will have a long lasting effect. Fingers crossed!
